"Elizabeth I In Her Own Words," a play written by Carole Levin, is being performed at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The play provides a glimpse into Queen Elizabeth’s thoughts and fears as the text combines her letters with the words of Shakespeare.
Online reviews from edfringereview.com and edinburghguide.com have been positive. One reviewer noted: "Levin has created a marvellous historical drama."
The three-week festival of performing arts has taken place in Edinburgh every August since 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival.
Levin is Willa Cather Emerita Professor in the Department of History.
