BIO
Elodie Galeazzi is a Ph.D. student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research focuses on black media in Omaha, NE, in the post civil-rights era. She is pursuing certifications in Digital Humanities and Ethnic Studies. In her first year, she was a Graduate Assistant at the UNL Office of Global Strategies.
Prior to attending UNL, Elodie earned her B.A and M.A. at Aix-Marseille Université, including one year spent abroad at Creighton University, Omaha, NE, and doing research work on the Omaha Star, the African-American newspaper in Omaha. Her first thesis (in English) was entitled “Mildred Brown and the Omaha Star: Why the Black Press Matters?” It focused on the 1966 race riots in Omaha and compared how both the Omaha Star and the Omaha World-Herald covered the event. Her second thesis (in French) was entitled “The notion of racial uplift in the Omaha Star (Summer 1966);” and focused on the content of the newspaper to show how it provided an uplifting platform to the North Omaha community throughout the years.
