Curriculum Vitae: Nicholas Swiercek, C.V.
Joined the Department:
August 2007
My research interests reside broadly within twentieth century African American, urban, and social movement history. I study race and the Black Freedom movement in the urban Midwest and Great Plains states, comparative social movements, and urban planning in the post-World War II era. In particular, I seek to synthesize the often separately told narratives of structural urban history and grassroots activism. In terms of digital history, I am drawn to digital mapping technologies. In May 2007, I received my BA with distinction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in History and Political Science. My Master's thesis research compares freeway planning and resistance in Omaha, Nebraska from 1958 to 1985, studying the intersections of race, class, postwar urban planning, community organizing, and residential displacement.
